diploma

Delta, OH - In a heartwarming ceremony held at the Delta American Legion, 92-year old veteran, William Krauss, received his high school diploma, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Krauss, who attended Delta High School from 1946-1948, left school before graduating to serve in the Korean War.

Under Ohio law, veterans who served in the Second World War, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War, are eligible to receive a high school diploma from their local board of education. This legislation acknowledges the sacrifices made by service men and women who interrupted their education to serve their country.

After hearing his story from Rodger Ward at a Delta Village Council Meeting, Superintendent Jon Burke recommended Mr. Krauss to the Pike-Delta-York Local School Board for a high school diploma which was unanimously approved. "This is one of the greatest honors in my educational career," Burke commented. "His family put together a wonderful evening and decorated tables at the American Legion. To see his [Mr. Krauss] face light up when he walked through the door put goosebumps on the back of my neck. This story is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans. His commitment to our country and community exemplifies the values we all hold dear."
